We had a great visit with GP. One of the days we decided to head out to the Sandy River and throw some rocks. It was cold. It was so cold that Owen agreed to wear his gloves.
He loves throwing rocks and watching the splash.
This is one of those spots that has everything for him. There are big rigs on the highway out. That's a train bridge there in the background and we always seem to catch one, sand, sticks, rocks, birds, fellas fishin'.... we always seem to have a good time. And it's only about twenty minutes away.
Did I mention it was cold?

These are from one of our trips down to the waterfront on a weekend morning. Owen loves climbing on the rocks and playing hide and seek (like in the first image there). Early in the morning we had some nice fog. We were out to breakfast and saw how foggy it was so we ran home, grabbed a camera and headed out.
Taking pictures is not his favorite thing to do - he likes looking at them on the camera but I either have to trick him into participating in the creation and/or work very fast. I don't bring the camera out all that often- it tends to be on the weekend- but he really wants my undivided attention and doesn't appreciate the imposition.

These were all shot Canon with a 50mm.

Four years ago today Steph and I officially formed the partnership that is McNary-Sprague. I couldn't have hoped for a more supportive, smart, beautiful, caring woman to spend my days with.
I love you Steph and am looking forward to watching our relationship continue to evolve- to watching our kids grow up- and most especially I look forward to retiring with you (can we do that tomorrow?).

Owen in July.

Owen is a very active little boy, both in mind and body. He is learning new words everyday- we can tell him a new word and after two or three repetitions he's got it. He tells us that airplanes are in the sky ("airplane..sky"), that we're going to have pizza ("owen..pizza....daddy..pizza....red..pizza"), that excavators and cranes lift dirt, and so many more. It's amazing to watch him make these connections. When Red, Owen and I go on walks Owen will squat on the grass, give me a little smile, and say "poopoo". He's imitating Red.
Last week we started to write down the words that he can say and he's at 90+, we'll try to post a list here soon.
I could go on and on, I'll save some for the next post.

Quite a week for Owen- he learned the word "No" and is putting it to good use. He's been saying a lot more than that though- he says "I don't know, door, truck, dump truck, trash, lawn mower, burps, Elmo, woo woo (train), waa waa (river), balloon (doesn't sound anything like it though), computer (puta puta puta), momma, daddy, more, excavator (dah dah dah), shredded wheat (dah dah dah), hockey stick (dah dah dah), O's (as in the organic version of Cheerios), please (puh), Red (duh, as in Red-duh), bird, bus, quesadilla (teekaaa), pizza (teekaaa), park, ball, baby, yeah, van, car, home, high chair, Abby...boy now that I start listing them there seems to be a lot and he's picking up more everyday.

I had to run over to the warehouse to take care of some business and Owen was game so down we went. He used to be really excited about the warehouse but he has entered his shy phase- whenever he meets someone new or is in an unfamiliar environment he holds on real tight and rests his head on my shoulder (if I am holding him) or holds onto my leg (if he's standing there). It makes me feel like a Dad.
The last time we were at the warehouse (maybe 3 weeks ago) we were unloading a truck and I think the experience of seeing a real truck up close and the loud noises overloaded some of his circuits.
But he does enjoy the outside of the warehouse- it's in an industrial area with a lot of trucks, construction, and general activity, but especially these stairs.
And one last thing- the arm resting casually on the stairs was his idea, I had nothing to do with it (I just document what's there right?). And for goodness sake click on one and see it big...

Cherry blossoms and 9-irons.

Spring is here. Had a nice trip to the Japanese American Historical Plaza (to remember those who were detained during WWII) and enjoyed the blossoms. Think this will have to be a yearly event.
We had some nice weather so we broke out the clubs and played in the grass. We'll get him used to the golf clubs and then we'll break out the hockey sticks. Fore!

I've been experimenting with a new way to make movies using my Canon DSLRs. This method allows more control over how each individual frame looks but results in jerky playback. I'm currently working on that, but unfortunately I think I'd have to throw more money at that that I would like. We'll see.

That's what Mom calls it. Owen is having a great time with his new boots- he just hops from puddle to puddle. I like it because now I don't have to rush him home because of a couple of wet socks. At first he wasn't too sure about them (they're a little too big) but once he saw the possibilities, well get out of the way Red!
He's getting close to saying bus, yes, this, Red, truck, spaghetti, and a few others. He makes an engine sound when he hears a truck go by, loves chasing Steadman around, and sits in a big person chair for his snacks (I'll have to snap a photo of that one).

He say's bye-bye, quesadilla, mama, dad, please (puh, puh), and he's getting started on a few others. He likes to throw the ball for Red and to hold her leash when we go for walks. He also gets mad when we won't let him walk into the street. He waves hi and bye, points to his ear when he hears a plane, a train, or anything else that he thinks is interesting.
And he still loves his trucks and cars....

Believe it or not this is actually at my new warehouse- there's a nice bank of windows that lets in some nice natural light- put up a black backround and we were good to go. Mom was even around to help us out with this one, a welcome surprise.
